Kristin Terich B.S. in Biology University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA)
After not being accepted to medical school immediately after graduating from UCLA, I knew that I was going to have to improve my application credentials in order to demonstrate my readiness to enter medical school in the future. Even though my major application downfall was my lower than average MCAT score, I knew that retaking the MCAT would most likely not be enough for improving my application. When I heard about the Georgetown University Special Masters? Program I knew that this was the program for me. Not only would I be able to take twenty-three credits of courses right alongside first-year medical students, but also I would come out of the program with a Masters? Degree and an excellent graduate educational experience. This program is a great opportunity to demonstrate to medical school admissions committees that you are capable of mastering the majority of the material taught in the first year of medical school. While here at Georgetown I have made many friends and have been able to grow and learn in a collaborative and encouraging environment.

Caroline G. Bennett B.A. in English Davidson College
Because being an English major in college limited my ability to take many science courses beyond the pre-medical requirements, I planned to spend this year strengthening my science background through a lab position while applying to medical school. But when I heard about Georgetown's Special Master's Program, I instantly knew that it was right for me. It is a truly unique opportunity to prepare for medical school through coursework and through exposure to the medical academic setting. On a daily basis, I am surrounded by enthusiastic, approachable professors and a diverse group of classmates who all share a common goal and passion for medicine. I will leave this program with much more than a master's degree; Georgetown has given me lasting friendships and confidence in my ability to succeed in medical school.

Harpreet Walia B.S. in Business Administration University of Florida
As a result of my extracurricular experiences and volunteer opportunities at the University of Florida, I knew I wanted to pursue a medical education, but after graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration Degree, I felt I needed additional preparation before entering medical school. After researching programs available to enhance my undergraduate education while also preparing me to successfully gain admission to medical school, I found out about the Georgetown University Special Masters Program. I knew that taking medical school and graduate level courses to earn a Masters Degree at an excellent university would be the best way for me to prepare for medical school. Since enrolling in the program, I have been surrounded by a dedicated, caring faculty and a group of professional peers who have quickly become friends. I know this program with provide me with an excellent education and the skills that will help me succeed in medical school and as a physician.

Robert Kuhn B.S. in Biomedical Engineering Columbia University
I was a unique case. I knew I wanted biomedical engineering when I came to Columbia, and had considered going to a biomedical engineering graduate program throughout my first three years. During my senior year, I chose to become a physician. I am currently enrolled in GU?s Special Masters Program in Physiology and Biophysics, a one-year masters program designed to prepare pre-medical students for the medical school environment. Its highlights include six medical school courses taken with the first-year medical class and a comprehensive group of graduate classes that well-prepare students for the upcoming medical years. I have not been far-removed from the Columbia community, and can therefore testify to the differences between the two atmospheres, styles, and overall experience. Both schools demand excellence from their students and professors, yet Georgetown truly excels at personal involvement, encouraging students to talk to professors in their offices and after class. They are very receptive and understanding, never rejecting questions or suggesting further studying before returning. They make learning easier (i.e. distribution of comprehensive note packets at the beginning of each course) which allow you to concentrate on learning the material without the obstacle of obtaining it first. I hope to attend Georgetown University?s School of Medicine and encourage you to strongly consider Georgetown in your graduate school plans.
