Orientation for Biomedical Graduate Students

The Office of Biomedical Graduate Education at Georgetown University (GU), in cooperation with the Medical Center Graduate Student Organization (MCGSO), is pleased to sponsor orientation programs for new biomedical graduate students.

Please note that attendance at an orientation program is considered MANDATORY for all incoming biomedical graduate students.  Important and useful information is provided about the Medical Center Graduate Student Organization (MCGSO), Registration, Student Financial Services, Student Health and Counseling Services, Library Facilities and Computer Resources, the Research Resource Facility, as well as mandatory Laboratory Safety classes.

The Office of Biomedical Graduate Education hosts three orientation programs during the academic year, to coincide with student matriculation dates.  For further information, please click on the appropriate link below.

Summer Orientation 2008 - primarily for biomedical Ph.D. students who will commencement their graduate program with a summer laboratory research rotation in early July

Fall Orientation 2008 - for biomedical M.S. and Ph.D. students who will commence their graduate program to coincide with the start of classes for the Fall semester in late August

Spring Orientation 2009 - for biomedical M.S. and Ph.D. students who will commence their graduate program to coincide with the start of classes for the Spring semester in early January

IMPORTANT: Separate orientation programs are held for students matriculating into the special master's program in Physiology (SMP) and the M.S. in Physiology with specialization in Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM).  For more information, please visit the SMP website or the CAM websiteStudents matriculating into either SMP or CAM should not attend the general orientations events as noted on this website.

These orientation programs have been organized with the goal of addressing the specific needs and concerns of new students entering biomedical graduate programs at GU. As you prepare to embark on an exciting and challenging new chapter in your life as a member of the GU community, we feel that from the start you should have at your fingertips the essential facts which will aid in making your transition as smooth and as hassle-free as possible. You will also have a unique opportunity to meet and interact with GU students, faculty and staff at orientation and associated social events.

GU offers a dynamic and exciting educational environment for its students. We hope that you will find orientation to be both informative and enjoyable!

All incoming graduate students are also invited and strongly encouraged to attend the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Orientation program which is held in late August.  For further information, visit the Graduate School's Orientation website
