Georgetown University offers a variety of mechanisms for admission to doctoral (Ph.D.) biomedical training programs. Individuals wishing to apply to graduate study at the doctoral level in the biomedical sciences at Georgetown may select from one of four general options which have been made available to accommodate the diverse needs of our applicants.
(NOTE: The mechanisms described below do not apply to the joint M.D./Ph.D. Program. For information on M.D./Ph.D. Program Admissions, please click here)
Direct Admission to a Specific Degree-Granting Program
This mechanism for admission is designed for those who are certain about the type of research training they wish to receive in their doctoral program.
Undifferentiated Admission into the Biomedical Sciences
This is designed for those wish to pursue graduate studies in the biomedical sciences, but who do not initially have a clear idea about the specific discipline they wish to pursue in a doctoral level program. The Biomedical Sciences Program offers undifferentiated admission for such individuals.
"Track" Admission into the Biomedical Sciences
"Track" admission into the Basic Science Departments via the Biomedical Sciences Program is designed for students who have a good idea about what discipline they wish to enter, but want to maintain some degree of flexibility with regard to the ultimate selection of a research concentration and thesis mentor.
GU-NIH Partnership Program Admission
This is designed for those individuals wishing to be considered for undifferentited admission to the Georgetown University (GU)-National Institutes of Health (NIH) Partnership Program via the GU Biomedical Sciences Program.
