Most master's degree programs may generally be completed in one year on a full-time basis, though many of these programs also offer the opportunity to complete the program on a part-time basis.

Doctoral training programs leading to the Ph.D. degree in a basic science discipline have a similar core curriculum requiring: instructional course work and electives; laboratory rotations; programmatic activities such as seminars and journal clubs; and the submission and defense of an original research dissertation.

Undifferentiated admission is available through the Biomedical Sciences Program. Applicants who matriculate via this mechanism are provided with unique, broad-based educational and research opportunities. Emphasis is placed upon providing students with comprehensive exposure to the biomedical sciences during their first year to facilitate their choice of thesis research projects, as well as provide a strong foundation and enhance flexibility for their research careers. Students enter their ultimate degree-granting program by the end of their first year to complete program-specific coursework and to commence thesis research.
Georgetown University participates in the National Institutes of Health's Graduate Partnerships Program. Applicants who matriculate via this mechanism complete their coursework at the Georgetown University campus, but conduct collaborative research projects at both partner institutions.
