Admissions: "Track" Admissions

"Track" admission into the Basic Science Departments is designed for students who have a good idea about what discipline they wish to enter, but want to maintain some degree of flexibility with regard to the ultimate selection of a research concentration and thesis mentor. Individuals applying for admission to graduate studies in the basic sciences via this mechanism declare a research "track" which they wish to pursue. Applicants are reviewed by the Admissions Committee associated with that particular track. The curriculum in the first year consists of core courses common to all tracks, and electives specific to the individual disciplines. Most important, students that matriculate via this mechanism may conduct pre-thesis laboratory research rotations outside of their declared "track", and also have the opportunity to switch tracks should they find their research needs and interests are more appropriately addressed in one of the other participating departments. The ability to switch programs is dependent upon availability of positions in the intended department. Participating Basic Science departments are:
